LIUDMILA&NELSON, Berlin and Moscow 1969
Liudmila&Nelson is a team composed by Russian artist, Liudmila Velasco and Cuban artist, Nelson Ramírez de Arellano Conde. They have been working together since 1994 and Nelson is also the Director of the National Gallery of Photography of Cuba, since 2010, after serving as chief curator from 2001 to 2010.
Liudmila&Nelson’s work explores Cuban society’s past, present and possible future through images and videos created to make an impact on the viewer.
Their work has been exhibited all over the world and was presented at the 2013 Venice Biennial. Public collections such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA), the Nordic Light Collection in Norway, the Museum of Modern Art of Luxembourg (MUDAM,), the Watermill Foundation Collection in New York and the National Gallery of Photography of Cuba have acquired works for their permanent collections.
