OSMEIVY ORTEGA, Havana 1980
Osmeivy Ortega graduated from both the San Alejandro Art Academy and the Superior Institute of Art (ISA) in Havana. He also studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, Sweden and has obtained residencies in the United States, Germany, Sweden and Mexico.
Osmeivy Ortega’s woodblock prints are strongly connected to the natural world and depict the artist’s own imagery in the most poetical ways.
Awarded with various honours amongst which a special acknowledgement by the Tamarind Institute of the University of New Mexico and more recently First Prize at the National Engraving Encounter of Cuba.
Osmeivy Ortega’s work can be found in private collections as well as in public collections such as the AMBA Foundation in Brazil, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Cleveland (MOCA) in the United States and the Black Stone Foundation in the United Kingdom.
