RENÉ PEÑA, Havana 1957

A self-taught photographer, René Peña first studied English at the University of Havana before starting to exhibit his photographic work in the late 1980’s.

Depicting nowadays society through a deeply personal vision, is what René Peña’s work is all about. His powerful photographs, questioning the values of the world we live in, have been published in books and international media.

René Peña has been awarded, amongst others, with the First Prize of the IV Biennial of the Caribbean in the Dominican Republic and has received an Honour for Cuban Culture by the Plastic Arts Counsel of Cuba.

René Peña’s work has been widely exhibited in Cuba and internationally, as well as during the Venice Biennial in 2017. His photographs can be seen in museums and private collections all over the world such as the National Fine Arts Museum in Cuba, the MALBA in Argentina and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts in the United States.
